Finally, the day that SEC football fans have been waiting for years has arrived. The SEC will have 16 teams once Texas and Oklahoma join on Monday. There won’t be any football divisions in this conference.
This season, Alabama will play one of the two new institutions; on November 23, the Sooners will visit Alabama. Here’s all you need know about the two new schools’ football histories with the Crimson Tide as they join to mark the SEC’s first expansion since Texas A&M and Missouri were added in 2012.
Texas
There haven’t been many meetings between two of the most legendary programs in college football history, and Texas has usually prevailed. The last two regular season meetings between the two universities resulted in victories for Alabama in Austin in 2022 and Texas in Bryant-Denny Stadium the previous year.
The only postseason meeting between the Crimson Tide and Longhorns, aside from a few strange games in 1902–1922, occurred in 2022. Texas won those contests the majority of the time.
