Duke Basketball: Darren Harris’s injury recovery is looking good
Darren Harris hasn’t completely missed out on recent sessions with his Duke basketball colleagues despite suffering a hand injury.

The Duke basketball team stated on social media two weeks ago that freshman Darren Harris, who was expected to make a successful recovery, had surgery at Duke Medical Center in mid-June following a fracture to his non-shooting left hand.

Harris, a 6-foot-6, 203-pound four-star wing and highly regarded sniper from prep powerhouse Paul VI Catholic (Va.), is certainly close to returning to full strength, according to available data.

Tuesday night, the Blue Devils shared about twenty pictures from a recent team session at Duke’s practice facility on Facebook and Instagram. Two of the photos show Harris dribbling a ball with his right hand, but he’s also stretching with his teammates in a few of the pictures that show him engaged in on-court exercises.

Some of the photos show him from an angle that obscures part or all of his left arm and hand, but one on Facebook indicates that he is now limited to wearing a brace that goes from his wrist to his thumb.

No big, heavy cast. Apparently little limitations. Yes, one would assume that Darren Harris would be in prime form and fully capable of making 3-pointers weeks or months before preseason games and October’s Countdown to Craziness arrive, considering his apparent state in early July.

Together with the other five members of the nation’s top-ranked rookie class, he will be surrounded by a powerful group of four transfer newcomers, as well as the two returning guards with starting experience, sophomore Caleb Foster and junior Tyrese Proctor.

On November 4, the third season under head coach Jon Scheyer of Duke basketball, 2024–25, begins at home against Maine.
