The Dallas Mavericks should add ten free agents to complete their roster.
The Dallas Mavericks now only have one free roster slot following their sign-and-trade for Klay Thompson, which sent Josh Green to the Charlotte Hornets and second-round selections to the Golden State Warriors.
After adding Thompson, trading for Quentin Grimes, and signing Naji Marshall, Dallas has three new players for the next season. It’s time to decide who the Mavs will assign the last roster spot to.
From top to bottom, Nico Harrison and the front office have skillfully assembled this group. Depending on the player they add in the coming weeks, the Mavs may rise to the top of the Western Conference once more.

Given that Derrick Jones Jr. signed with the LA Clippers, the Mavs clearly need a point-of-attack defender. Grimes might play that position, but his knee condition may prevent him from ever reaching his best level of play.
The Mavs also require a second ball handler to play off the bench, since the team’s only reliable ball handlers right now are Jaden Hardy (should he continue to advance on his path to become a better playmaker), Kyrie Irving, Luka Doncic, and Dante Exum.
The Mavs front management will have to make a huge choice about this last roster place, regardless of how packed Dallas’ roster is at the moment.

10. Spencer Dinwiddie
Spencer Dinwiddie is someone the organization should absolutely consider signing with their final roster space, regardless of how he turned his back on the Mavericks the previous season and joined with the Los Angeles Lakers after he was bought out. Dinwiddie would become the team’s third ball handler right away and may even be one of the first players off the bench, since the Mavs have already expressed interest in him.
During the previous campaign, Dinwiddie shot 33.7 percent from three-point range and 39.2 percent from the field to average 10.5 points, 2.7 rebounds, and 4.7 assists a game. Dinwiddie had a lackluster season in Brooklyn and Los Angeles, but Dallas would provide him with the ideal setting for a successful return.
Given that he and Luka led the team to the Western Conference Finals in 2022, Dinwiddie and the organization have a certain amount of familiarity. As such, he already understands how to play with Doncic.
Dinwiddie was well-liked by his Dallas colleagues and was a big aid to the younger players. When they were teammates, Hardy had nothing but praise for Dinwiddie, so having him back on the roster should be a simple transition.
Dinwiddie would be a fantastic addition for the Mavs as they look to bolster their squad because of his fascinating ability to lead the attack when necessary and play off the ball.
