Vladimir Guerrero Jr. responds unexpectedly to rumors of a deal involving the Yankees
Breaking news out of Boston: Blue Jays star Vladimir Guerrero Jr. appears to be trapped in purgatory, existing in a state halfway between the afterlife and the hereafter.
Or, at least, given that the Jays slugger previously declared he wouldn’t contemplate joining the Yankees in any scenario, living or dead, it would appear that this must be the case. Perhaps the only caution is to get caught in the middle?
The Blue Jays have undoubtedly been mired in the middle lately, but their collapse in Beantown on Monday night might be the tipping point that pushes them over the “seller” line. Yusei Kikuchi and Trevor Richards, two rental properties, ought to be long gone. The difficult part is about to begin: is Toronto scared enough of its future to let go of guys who seemed like long-term fixtures? More specifically, Lil’ Vladdy and Bo Bichette?
The general consensus is that Guerrero is here to stay. However, if he were to declare his retirement at the end of 2025, Toronto’s front office would find it extremely difficult to accept his departure. Only a few months prior, they had plans to sign Juan Soto or Shohei Ohtani. Even more improbable is sending Guerrero to the hated Yankees in the division; can you image the Jays having to watch their former star play in pinstripes for a whole year and a half while they wait for an extension
Guerrero Jr. spent far too much time mocking the Yankees and vowed never to even consider their advances, so it seemed improbable that he would end up in New York City and torment the Jays from beyond the grave as recently as last season. But Guerrero Jr. has suddenly changed his mind, not just about free agency but also about a July trade, as the Jays are heading toward disaster.
Is Vladimir Guerrero Jr. reconsidering his trade to the Bronx, according to Yankees rumors?
After a poor start to 2024, Guerrero’s potential to “help the [Yankees] or any team” has become even more evident considering his recent recovery. The right-hander’s OPS+ has suddenly increased to a respectable 129, and his OPS has edged closer to.800 (.797). His 471-foot home drive over the Monster could still be in the air going into Monday’s play, just in case there were any skeptics left. When it does land, someone should remind it that the game was blown by the cursed Blue Jays bullpen. Once more.
After Anthony Rizzo’s injury and poor play, Yankee fans would undoubtedly leave any trolling bygones be bygones if he showed up on their doorstep. If you can grab any Jay, he’s the one you want right now.
Sadly, Vlad Jr., who recently accepted himself, is currently without control over where he plays, and the Jays laughed more at this video than any Yankee fan did. Not going to occur.
