The last player to be added to the University of Florida men’s basketball squad for the 2024–25 campaign is in place. Urban Klavzar, a guard from Slovenia, will join the Gators as their final scholarship recipient, according to a report from Swamp247 yesterday. This addition rounds out the starting lineup for the club and demonstrates head coach Todd Golden’s desire to assemble a multicultural, multinational group.
The 6-foot-1 shooting specialist Klavzar offers a plethora of knowledge from his days playing competitive hoops in Spain. Klavzar shot an amazing 47.7% from the field and 42.7% from beyond the arc in 2023–24 while averaging 8.9 points per game for CD Estela Cantabria in the Primera FEB.
Beyond club play, the 20-year-old guard has an extensive international background. His latest performance, where he averaged 15.4 points, 3.9 assists, and 2.1 rebounds per game while playing for the Slovenian National Team in the U20 European Championship, further demonstrates his potential.
With the signing of Serbian center Viktor Mikic, Klavzar becomes the Gators’ second foreign recruit of the offseason. In the three years since Coach Golden took control, five international players have joined the program, demonstrating this trend and his worldwide approach to talent acquisition.
There are currently a mix of Division I transfers, new recruits, and returning players on the Gators’ roster. A few notable arrivals include four-star combo guard Isaiah Brown, Chattanooga forward Sam Alexis, Washington State center Reuben Chinyelu, and former Florida Atlantic guard Alijah Martin.
The point guard position continues to be a focus area for the squad as it looks forward. Coach Golden plans to use a committee method in light of the departure of important playmaker Zyon Pullin. Klavzar will share ball handling responsibilities with Martin, Clayton, Aberdeen, and Kublickas.
The Gators will have a difficult time replacing Pullin’s playmaking and leadership skills, but Klavzar completes a roster that Florida believes can be competitive in 2024–2025.
