Jack Devine is amassing a huge jewelry collection.
The Florida Panthers prospect is seeking to add a third ring to his CV during his upcoming senior season, following victories at Denver in 2022 and 2024.
Having said that, he is also taking care to avoid getting ahead of himself.
Following Tuesday’s second day of development camp at Baptist Health IcePlex, Devine remarked, “It’s just taking it one day at a time.” “I believe that our squad didn’t really get ahead of itself the previous year. We simply concentrated on each game, day by day. We frequently lost or didn’t play to our greatest abilities, but we never wavered from our routine in an effort to improve.
Devine, who hit the stop button on becoming pro, acknowledged that returning to school was not an easy choice, but it was the one he thought made the most sense. Not only will he get another season to hone his craft, but he’ll also be able to complete his finance degree.
The Panthers gave him their full support after the choice was made.
“The Panthers are an elite team,” Devine, a 2022 seventh-round selection, stated. “I’m appreciative of their help and encouragement. It was a difficult choice for me, and I gave it a lot of thinking. I believe I was just choosing what was best for my family and myself. I received excellent assistance from a company that only cares about my best interests.
In 2023–2024, Devine had his greatest season to date after finding another gear as a junior.
With a career-high 56 points, he also tied for eighth place in the country in scoring.
Devine, who was a top-10 nominee for the Hobey Baker Award, which is presented to the best men’s college hockey player in the nation each year, stated, “I think it was pretty special both for myself and my team.” “Winning a championship to end your season is an incredible feat. I was really fortunate to have had such a unique year.
Devine claimed that his most formative experience was losing in the first round of the Frozen Four in 2023, after having won the national title as a freshman in 2022.
As they often say, failure teaches you more.
Devine and his teammates used the lessons they gained from that defeat to their incredible run to the national title in 2023, giving up only one goal in each of the four games they participated in throughout the competition.
The Pioneers defeated Boston College 2-0 in the title match.
“I don’t think I really understood how hard it was,” Devine remarked after winning her first year. “You succeed in your first year, so what more could you ask for? I believe that during my sophomore year, I experienced the feeling of losing and realized that it’s a true struggle. With the group I won with in 2022, I believe it’s extremely amazing, but you also form a band of brothers in 2024. Having some of those younger players on my squad this year and winning was extremely pleasant.
Devine acknowledges that although his attention is still on a third ring, he occasionally dreams about the next move.
He can’t wait to start pursuing even larger hardware in the professional ranks when the time is perfect.
Devine remarked, “It’s awesome to also see the club I’m drafted by have so much success,” in reference to the Panthers’ historic Stanley Cup victory this season. “I’m confident that an organization like this will support me when the time is right for me, and hopefully I can step in and do everything in my power to help [these] guys win, whichever team that happens to be in Charlotte or Florida.”
