PEMBROKE PINES, Fla. — Of some of the key areas the Florida Gators have focused on this recruiting cycle, wide receiver has been an area that has been one of the priories to attack. The Gators have offered numerous pass catchers this cycle, and have hoped to ink a deep group when the dust settles. Adding a player with some size that can help at the X receiver position was one area in particular the Gators have worked to hit this cycle as well. That’s what made landing a commitment from Pembroke Pines (Fla.) West Broward three-star wide receiver Joshua Moore a significant win for the staff.
Between the last two seasons, Moore has accounted for 100 catches, 1869 receiving yards, and 20 touchdowns according to Maxpreps. While those are some productive numbers at the prep level, West Broward head coach Brian McCartney feels Moore’s better years are still ahead of him.
The 2024 season is approaching rapidly, with 51 days until the Gators open the 2024 regular season against the Miami Hurricanes in The Swamp.
Though, it will feel like football season is right around the corner, as UF football head coach Billy Napier is set to take the stage in Dallas on July 17 for SEC Media Days, and the Gators will open fall camp less than two weeks later at a date to be announced.
The Gators are looking to improve upon last season’s 5-7 finish, which may be a difficult task, considering UF will face 11 Power Five opponents in Napier’s third season at the helm, starting with a team looking to make the College Football Playoff in the ‘Canes.
The Southeastern Conference competition has increased, too, with the additions of Texas and Oklahoma, a pair of former Big 12 programs which officially joined the conference on July 1st, and the Gators will take on the former in early November in Austin, Texas, at 12 p.m. ET.
With the season rapidly approaching, Swamp247 is taking an extensive look at each of Florida’s opponents in 2024, continuing with UF’s Week 7 battle at Neyland Stadium against the Tennessee Volunteers. The game will be held on Oct. 12, with kickoff flexed into an afternoon (3:30-4:30 p.m.) or night game (6-8 p.m.) at a later date.
‌The Volunteers opened the 2023 campaign with a pair of wins against Virginia and Austin Peay before dropping their first conference game against Florida, 29-16.
Though, the program would bounce back despite the momentum hit, with three consecutive wins against UTSA, South Carolina and Texas A&M to improve to 5-1.
After a 14-point loss the following week at Alabama, Tennessee secured bowl eligibility with a win at Kentucky followed by a 56-point drubbing of UConn.
Facing a pair of ranked opponents in Missouri and Georgia, the Volunteers suffered consecutive defeats for the first time on the season, including a 29-point loss to the Tigers that saw the Volunteers’ offense struggle throughout the contest and manage a lone touchdown.
Tennessee capped off its season with a win over an in-state program, Vanderbilt, and the postseason was a res
