Commander’s trade pitch would land Brandon Aiyuk and send the 49ers a replacement.
The San Francisco 49ers hope to have Brandon Aiyuk catch passes for them next season. However, the two have failed to reach a long-term agreement. Aiyuk has been open about the issue, naming the Washington Commanders as a team he’d like to play for if he doesn’t earn a new contract, and expressing hope that they’ll partner him with youngster Jayden Daniels.

The 49ers would obtain Courtland Sutton, a 2025 second-round selection from Washington.
Let’s go funky, eh? Denver is in a contract bind of its own, with Sutton considering a training-camp boycott as he seeks a wage hike in Year 7,” Benjamin reported on July 9. “While Sean Payton may not want to part with his team’s most decorated wideout, he could use more resources for the long-term development of rookie quarterback Bo Nix.
“Crowder is getting older, but his consistency as a possession target would likely appeal to Payton’s eye for efficiency. San Francisco, however, would effectively be renting a proven downfield starter in Sutton while also recouping a second-round pick by trading Aiyuk to Washington.”
A trade in which the Washington Commanders send a replacement for Aiyuk to the San Francisco 49ers may be the greatest conceivable outcome. The 49ers, who lost 25-22 to the Kansas City Chiefs in the Super Bowl last season, have the possibility to return with a comparable group.
Aiyuk was an important member of the squad, and losing him and not replacing him would jeopardize their prospects of success.
Sutton is expected to earn $13 million in 2024 and is under contract for the following two seasons. According to Randy Mueller of The Athletic, Aiyuk is expected to sign a contract of $30 million per year, more than double Sutton’s current salary.
“Ultimately, I expect Aiyuk would sign for around $30 million to $32 million annually with about $50 million fully guaranteed,” Mueller wrote on June 27, 2013.
Sutton had 772 yards on 59 receptions, while Aiyuk had 1,342 yards on 75 receptions. However, in this case, the Commanders must hope that the 49ers choose the less expensive option and are willing to relocate the 26-year-old.
