Dallas Mavericks’ GM Explains Truth Behind Signing Another Superstar
Even though some think that All-Star shooter Klay Thompson is past his peak, the Dallas Mavericks were happy to acquire him from the Golden State Warriors a few weeks ago. For general manager Nico Harrison, however, signing him was a no-brainer.
In a record six-team transaction, the Mavericks acquired Thompson from the Warriors in exchange for a 2025 second-round lottery selection. Simultaneously, they traded fourth-year swingman Josh Green and a second-round selection.
Thompson’s move alongside fellow Mavericks talents Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving creates a fearsome Big Three in Dallas. Thompson, known as half of the Splash Brothers alongside All-Star point guard Stephen Curry, has four titles with the Warriors.
Thompson, who stands 6’6″ and weighs 220 lbs, has exceptional three-point shooting and perimeter defense, making him an excellent match for the Mavericks, who were eliminated from the NBA Finals last season. Thompson’s 41.9% lifetime three-point percentage and ability to convert catch-and-shoot situations should help the club improve its three-point shooting from the Finals.
Harrison engineered this mega-deal while continuing to aggressively enhance the lineup. Thompson selected Dallas over other offers, drawn by the prospect of winning many championships alongside Doncic and Irving. This transaction solidifies the Mavericks’ status as a top contender for the NBA title next season.
Thompson’s acquisition to the Luka Doncic-led group was hailed a wise decision by Dallas. In a video published by MavsHighlights on X, Harrison explains why they chose the Splash Brother.
