Manchester United’s new sports director, Dan Ashworth, has addressed concerns about the club’s commitment to women’s football.
Sir Jim Ratcliffe has faced criticism and doubts about his commitment to the women’s squad since taking a minority investment in United, giving his Ineos business influence over football operations at Old Trafford.

Ashworth, who began his new post at the beginning of this month, stated that the £50 million initiative to renovate the club’s Carrington training facility will help all United teams, including the women’s squad.
“Women’s football was an important part of my remit in previous roles with Newcastle United, Brighton and Hove Albion, and the FA, and it will be the same at Manchester United,” he wrote in a statement to fans posted on the club’s website on Monday.
“Women’s football is undoubtedly the most promising area of growth in the world game, and we want to be a part of it.
