The Toronto Blue Jays may or may not deal Vladimir Guerrero Jr., but one first-place team looks to be a likely contender.In a broadcast on MLB Network’s “MLB Central” Monday, Jon Heyman stated that if the Blue Jays deal Guerrero, the Seattle Mariners may be a potential destination. Heyman said that the two parties had previously held preliminary negotiations, but it is unclear whether Guerrero was the focus of them.
“I certainly think they’d love to get Vlad Guerrero Jr.,” Mr. Heyman added. “Nobody expects him to be transferred since he and (Bo) Bichette both have a year until they become free agents. We don’t think Toronto will be able to deal Vlad Guerrero, but I know these clubs are in communication. “This would make sense.”
After parting ways with a former All-Star late Sunday, the Mariners desperately need help at first base. Their need for offense in general is even greater, as the team’s batting average of.218 ranks worst in the American League. Despite this, they are tied for top in the AL West heading into Monday’s game.
There was some speculation that the Blue Jays could be willing to trade Guerrero, but current sources indicate that this is still improbable. The Mariners may need to seek offensive assistance elsewhere.
