Major 5-Star Safety Target. Jonah Williams Plans Texas Longhorns Visit

The Texas Longhorns want to make a huge statement on the recruiting road this summer, with many top-level talents expected to make selections before the start of the 2024 season.

One position group where they may make an impact is the secondary, where they currently have only two commits through the 2025 cycle: four-star corner Kade Phillips and three-star corner Caleb Chester.

Fortunately for the Horns, there may be some movement in that area, as Ball (Galveston, TX) five-star safety Jonah Williams has scheduled an unofficial visit to Austin on July 25, according to Inside Texas.

Williams has not scheduled a commitment date.

Williams is now ranked as the No. 10 player in America, the No. 1 safety in the country, and the No. 3 player in Texas, according to the On3 Industry Ranking.

Williams was a sensation on both sides of the ball last season as a junior, catching 20 passes for 474 yards and eight touchdowns while also running for 144 yards and two scores. On defense, he recorded 58 tackles, four for loss, and four interceptions. He also had three pick-sixes and scored on two punts and two kickoff returns.

But do the Horns actually have a shot with Williams?

The Horns’ new head baseball coach, Jim Schlossnagle, might aid them with that effort.

Williams is also a great baseball prospect, and the Aggies were near the top of his list due in large part to his admiration for the new Texas skipper.

According to a recent interview, Williams’ action might pay off handsomely in his recruiting.

“That would be pretty crazy,” Williams told 247Sports last month. “It would definitely move Texas up.”

As of now, Texas does not have a commitment from a safety prospect, however Phillips expects to be able to play that position at the next level.
