Klay Thompson left the Golden State Warriors in free agency this offseason to join with the Dallas Mavericks, capping a brilliant 13-year career that included five All-Star appearances and four NBA Championships.
Team owner Joe Lacob recently revealed a surprising fact behind Klay’s departure, providing some fascinating insight into the behind-the-scenes procedure
According to The Athletic’s Tim Kawakami, Lacob had an intriguing remark on Klay departing the Warriors: “But you know, to be frank and honest, Klay made the decision prior to the beginning of free agency, and he informed us of it that his intention was not to come back.”

That is far from a fairytale ending for one of this generation’s most illustrious players, as after all of the ups and downs, from championships to injuries, Thompson secretly decided he was ready to go on and informed ownership before to free agency.
Klay’s departure felt apparent to fans as the free agency period began, but it didn’t appear to be written in stone quite yet.
Thompson will compete for a fifth ring with Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving, who just lost the Finals in five games to the Boston Celtics, the same team Klay vanquished two years ago to capture ring No. 4.
It may take some time to adjust to seeing him in a new outfit, but Thompson appears to have been the main force behind the transfer, deciding his time in The Bay was up.
