Kansas State transfer forward Arthur Kaluma has signed with Texas basketball.
Kansas State transfer forward Arthur Kaluma, who chose Texas over SMU on Thursday, has signed an athletic scholarship agreement with the Longhorns, head coach Rodney Terry said Friday.
Kaluma (6-7, 225), who averaged 14 points and seven rebounds last season at Kansas State, is perhaps the best available player in the transfer portal and still has one year of eligibility.
“Texas has a very good history of making it to the tournament,” Kaluma told Horns247 during his formal visit to the Longhorns earlier this week. “And the team they have so far is quite excellent. They have a high possibility of performing well in the competition and making a deep run. That would be an excellent way to end my senior year.”
Kaluma spent his first two seasons of college at Creighton, where he helped the Bluejays reach the Elite Eight in 2023.
Kaluma joins a remade Texas basketball lineup for the 2024-25 season, which includes five-star guard Tre Johnson and other important transfer portal additions such as Oregon State guard Jordan Pope, Arkansas wing Tramon Mark, Indiana State forward Jayson Kent, and Indiana State guard Julian Larry.
After losing 6-foot-9 forward Dylan Disu (15.5 points, 5.0 rebounds per game in 2023-24), who signed a free-agent summer-league contract with the Toronto Raptors this week, 6-foot-8 Dillon Mitchell (transferred to Cincinnati), and 6-foot-7 Brock Cunningham (graduation), Texas will have a frontcourt that includes Kaluma, Kent 6’11 senior Kadin Shedrick, 6’8 Ze’Rik Onyema, 6’7 Devon Pryor, 6’6 Vanderbilt transfer Malik Presley, and newcomers – Nicolas Codie (6’9) and Jamie Vinson (6’11”).
“I knew Jordan Pope from the time that we played against each other with Prolific against Dream City Christian,” he told me. “He was with Jalen Green and others. We cut it up a little (this week).
Last season, Kaluma was one of only four Big 12 players to rank in the top 15 in both scoring (13th) and rebounding (fifth), along with Kansas’ Hunter Dickinson, Kevin McCullar Jr., and TCU’s Emanuel Miller. Last season, he scored in double digits a team-high 28 times for K-State, including six 20-point efforts and five double-doubles.
“They’ve always had player archetypes like me,” Kaluma stated of Texas. “I mean, Timmy Allen was an excellent example that they utilized. I am a plug-in guy. You may put me wherever, and I will succeed.”
