The Los Angeles Lakers are one of the few teams who did not sign a free agent this summer, despite the fact that they drafted Dalton Knecht and Bronny James, both of whom might develop into strong young players. LeBron James, over 40 years old, is still playing at a high level, while Anthony Davis is one of the world’s top big men. The Lakers might go all-in this summer, acquiring rising talent Anfernee Simons to form a new Big Three for the franchise in the future.
Simons’ youth and agility would provide new energy to the Lakers’ backcourt. At 25 years old, he is approaching his prime and could create a formidable scoring trifecta alongside James and Davis. His arrival would alleviate some of James’ scoring burden, enabling the seasoned superstar to concentrate more on playmaking and defense. Simons’ quickness and ability to penetrate defenses provide up opportunities for Davis, especially in pick-and-roll situations, where he shines as a roll man.

The Portland Trail Blazers’ decision to trade Anfernee Simons for a deal focused on Austin Reaves fits well into their rebuilding approach. Reaves, who averaged 15.9 points and 5.5 assists per game in 2023-24, has demonstrated great promise as a dynamic guard. His ability to play both on and off the ball makes him an ideal complement to Scoot Henderson, the team’s new cornerstone. Henderson, recognized for his explosive quickness and playmaking ability, would benefit from Reaves’ complimentary approach, resulting in a more balanced backcourt.
