An emergency Braves news today: the Atlanta Braves now confirm the injury of another top experienced superstar.

As if the Atlanta Braves’ injury woes couldn’t get any worse, Reynaldo Lopez abandoned Sunday’s start due to right forearm stiffness. The Braves believe the injury is minimal, but forearm strain may occasionally lead to serious consequences.

This is an especially upsetting setback for the Braves, given how brilliantly Lopez has thrown this season and all of the other ailments they’ve dealt with. Forget about the injuries to their position players (there are plenty). The Braves’ pitching staff has been ravaged by injury.

Spencer Strider is over for the season, and has been since April. Max Fried is presently on the IL. Options for depth include Hurston Waldrep and Huascar Ynoa. Things are so terrible that Grant Holmes, a pitcher with ten MLB appearances but no starts, will start Monday’s series opener against the Milwaukee Brewers.

Whether Lopez’s ailment is mild or not, the Braves need to add depth. Spencer Schwellenbach’s rise may allow them to avoid a trade for a high-end starter, but adding depth in some form is critical. They can approach a team such as the Cincinnati Reds to make a transaction happen.
