Since their debut NBA season in 1976-77, the San Antonio Spurs have had many notable players on their roster. San Antonio has established themselves as one of the NBA’s most successful clubs over the course of 49 seasons. They’ve made the playoffs in 39 of their 49 seasons, including 22 consecutive years from 1997-98 to 2018-2019.
During those 22 consecutive playoff campaigns, the Spurs advanced to the NBA Finals six times, winning five of them. Over the previous two decades, San Antonio has emerged as one of the most powerful and consistent teams under head coach Gregg Popovich. From 1999-00 to 2016-17, they won 50 or more games every season, including a franchise record 67 victories in 2015-16.
The Spurs have struggled since beginning a rebuild in 2019-20, but they did get lucky by selecting Victor Wembanyama, the most heralded NBA talent since LeBron James, in the 2023 NBA draft. Wembanyama easily won Rookie of the Year and dominated on the court for the Spurs, so it’s just a matter of time until he makes this list.
With their domination over the previous two decades, many great players have donned the silver and black, but only one can be considered the greatest Spur of all time.
