In a recent mock deal, the Knicks acquire a championship center.
The New York Knicks are on the verge of a championship, and the newest faux transaction brings them a center who has been through that door three times before.

Heavy Sports’ Jonathan Adams examined a potential transaction constructed by SNY’s David Vertsberger in which the Knicks trade Precious Achiuwa and future draft selections for Golden State Warriors big man Kevon Looney. Adams said this regarding the possibility of the deal:

“One fascinating trade option involves the Knicks sending forward Precious Achiuwa and future draft selections to the Golden State Warriors in exchange for center Kevin Looney. One thing to keep in mind is that because Achiuwa is still a free agent, any move would have to be either a sign-and-trade or a midseason transaction. However, Looney’s fit with the Knicks makes some sense, even if the trade mechanics need to be worked out,” Adams said.

Kevon Looney, knicks

The Knicks might rely on Kevon Looney having a great year in New York next season.

Achiuwa may potentially depart the Knicks this summer to join another club in free agency. However, if the Knicks are able to sign him, dealing him away for Looney would be a wise decision that may yield significant results right away.

Looney had a poor season in 2023-24 after ranking eighth in Most Improved Player of the Year voting in 2022–23. The UCLA product witnessed a significant 7.8-minute reduction in court time per game with the Warriors. Nonetheless, he managed to snag 5.7 rebounds in only 16.1 minutes each night. Looney previously recorded a career-high 9.3 boards in 2022-23
