Auburn Tigers News: Houston series is scheduled by Auburn basketball, and Fan Day is announced by Auburn football.
The Auburn basketball team has set up a two-season series with Houston, and the Auburn football team has announced its preseason fanfest in today’s Auburn Tigers News.
Now that August has arrived, just a few weeks remain until the 2024 college football season kicks out. When Auburn football hosts Alabama A&M at Jordan-Hare Stadium on August 31, they will resume play, but there are plenty of exciting things to look forward to in the interim.
On August 10, fans are welcome to attend The Auburn Family Football Preseason Kickoff, which will take place at the indoor facility located behind the Athletics Complex at the intersection of South Donahue Drive and Samford Avenue. The event is free to attend, and doors open at 3:00 PM Central Time.
There will be a pep rally organized by the Auburn Cheerleaders featuring an appearance by Aubie, as well as opportunities for fans to meet Hugh Freeze and the 2024 Auburn Tigers, receive autographs, and visit the family fun zone.
Houston and Auburn basketball have agreed to a two-season series.
In the meanwhile, head coach Bruce Pearl is still assembling one of the best non-conference schedules in program history. Auburn Undercover reports that Auburn basketball and Houston have decided to play a two-season series starting this autumn.
The Cougars will play the Tigers at Birmingham, Alabama in 2025, while the Tigers will play Houston on November 9 at the Toyota Center in Houston, home of the Houston Rockets.
The Tigers’ non-conference opponents this season, in addition to Houston, are Purdue, Duke, and the whole field of the Maui Invitational, which includes UConn, the reigning NCAA champion. Neville Arena will not host any of these games. While the Maui Invitational is, of course, held in Maui, Auburn will play Purdue at a neutral site in Birmingham then fly to Durham to play Duke in the SEC/ACC Challenge.
This year’s Tigers have a challenging non-conference schedule ahead of them, but Pearl will make sure his team is prepared for the task.
Transfer linebacker Dorian Mausi discusses why he decided to play football at Auburn in today’s Auburn Tigers News, and the Tigers make an impression on a five-star quarterback during his visit.
Dorian Mausi, a former linebacker for Duke, was among the first transfers to schedule an official visit with the Auburn football team after the 2023 season. Mausi was among the first transfers to commit to the Tigers shortly after his visit.
Mausi had certain expectations for his future school after playing a key role on the field for the Blue Devils for four years. His visit to the Plains was enough to convince him to play his last year of collegiate ball as a Tiger.
According to Auburn Athletics, the Duke transfer stated, “I wanted to continue my career in a place where that was important because I came from a school where that was big.” When I talked with Coach (Hugh) Freeze, he told me that he wanted me to help raise the young men and be in a position to educate others around me how those leadership chances have improved me as a player. I had heard stories about what it was like here. I was genuinely convinced by that, and I was really appreciative of it.
A five-star quarterback is impressed by the Tigers during his visit.
The Auburn football team welcomed 5-star quarterback Ryder Lyons from Folsom, California, earlier this week. With a ranking of #3 among quarterbacks in the recruiting class of 2026 and #2 among prospects in his own state, Lyons concluded his Southeast tour at the Plains. He also made visits to Alabama, Ole Miss, and Texas A&M.
During his visit, Lyons had the opportunity to speak with the Auburn football coaching staff, and they made it known to him that he is a top prospect for the class of 2026.
Lyons stated, “I’m big on relationships and these coaches showed me that I’m definitely high on their list, which means a lot,” according to Auburn Rivals. “That was something I enjoyed because you want to go somewhere where you’re believed in. I thought the culture was incredibly interesting; it’s obvious that this place is unique.
The quarterback told Auburn Rivals that the Tigers left a lasting impact on him and that Auburn is unquestionably a top school right now, despite the fact that he hasn’t specified a top group of colleges or established a commitment date.
