If you are one of many Pittsburgh Steelers supporters who have been banging the table for Brandon Aiyuk, you may finally get your wish. Trade negotiations are heating up, as Pittsburgh is allegedly in the forefront for the excellent 49ers receiver.

On August 5, Adam Schefter joined The Pat McAfee Show to explore the possibilities of an Aiyuk transfer. Later that day, many trustworthy sources stated on social media that a deal was in the works.

I spoke to a source close to the case who said the 49ers received trade proposals from both the Patriots and Browns, but Aiyuk’s party advised the two probable suitors he would not commit to signing an extension if transferred to New England or Cleveland. My source also said that Aiyuk wants to play with quarterback Jayden Daniels in Washington, but the Commanders don’t have enough interest in trade for the great receiver.

This leaves Pittsburgh as the surviving squad in the fight for Aiyuk.

My source indicates Aiyuk would be prepared to contract in the vicinity of $28 million per season in additional yearly earnings if moved to the Steelers. To get a deal done, General Manager Omar Khan may be looking at a trade including a second-round selection in 2025 while tossing in veteran guard James Daniels to sweeten the pot.

NFL analyst Cam Marino of NFL Draft Buzz stated the 49ers had agreed on a deal that will send Aiyuk to Pittsburgh, while there has been no confirmation from national NFL Insiders.

Steelers set to finish agreement with 49ers WR Brandon Aiyuk shortly

With indications of a trade leaking left and right, the Pittsburgh Steelers have been blowing up on social media like never before heading to their first preseason game against the Texans this week. There was never a doubt that the team had an interest in seeking an improvement at wide out, as Khan stated that they reached out to the 49ers about a trade for a receiver during the 2024 NFL Draft.

Now it appears like we are in the last phases of the Brandon Aiyuk trade drama — a route that likely goes to Pittsburgh.

The Steelers had question marks at the wide receiver position all summer, and their situation didn’t get better when Roman Wilson sustained an ankle injury during the first padded exercise at training camp. Despite sparks from Van Jefferson and Calvin Austin III, Pittsburgh can scarcely bank on an internal option to be the answer to their difficulties at wide receiver.

Meanwhile, the 49ers may not have as much motivation to send one of their greatest players departing in the midst of a Super Bowl window, but they might be running out of alternatives. My insider informed me the 49ers appreciate Ricky Pearsall’s fit in the offense and they want to wash their hands of the Brandon Aiyuk situation before the start of the 2024 season.
