Austin Hays of the Phillies gets placed on the 10-day disabled list due to a hamstring issue.

CBS Philadelphia, PA Due to an ailment that has plagued Philadelphia this season, Austin Hays, who the Phillies acquired at the trade deadline to play every day in left field, will go on the disabled list.

In a series of roster changes, the Phillies placed Hays on the 10-day injured list retroactive to Thursday due to a left hamstring injury.

 

Max Lazar, a right-handed pitcher, and Cal Stevenson, an outfielder, were called up by Philadelphia from Triple A Lehigh Valley. Lazar takes over for Kolby Allard, the lefty starter on Thursday night, who was optioned to the IronPigs. To create space on the 40-man roster for Stevenson and Lazar, the team designated righty pitcher Max Castillo and first baseman Darick Hall for assignment.

 

Hays sustained the injury during Wednesday night’s 9-4 Phillies victory against the Los Angeles Dodgers. In the third inning, he departed.

 

After being acquired on July 26th in a trade from the Baltimore Orioles, 29-year-old Hays has appeared in ten games. He is striking.263/.282/.395 (slugging plus on-base percentage) with five runs, one home run, and two doubles in his Phillies career.

The Phillies have struggled this season with hamstring issues. Due to hamstring issues, Trea Turner missed 38 games, while Bryce Harper and Brandon Marsh also lost time.

 

After hitting.307 with a.908 OPS with 21 doubles, five triples, and seven home runs, Stevenson, 27, has signed with the Phillies. Despite being a left-handed batter, Stevenson has had respectable season splits:.828 OPS against lefties and.925 OPS against righties.

 

With the Phillies, Allard had three appearances (two starts) and pitched 13 innings with a 3.46 ERA. On Thursday night, he achieved his first major-league victory since October 4, 2022.

Lazar, who signed a minor league free agency contract in December 2023, appeared in 34 bullpen appearances this season between Double A and Triple A. With a 1.79 ERA and 13 saves, he struck out 53 hitters in 40 1/3 innings pitched.
