Report: Top Sensationally Talented Edmonton Oilers Player Set for Surgery, May Miss Several Months File a Claim
Evander Kane, the forward for the Edmonton Oilers, was reportedly not going to be ready for the 2024–25 season, only a few days before. It appears that Kane is now scheduled for surgery and may miss many months of play.
Elliotte Friedman of Sportsnet reports that there was a little hiccup in getting Kane into the operating room, but that has since been resolved, and surgery is anticipated for Kane. According to Friedman, Evander Kane will likely need surgery, as she stated on the 32 Thoughts Podcast. One of the reasons it took thus long, in my opinion, was that they had to hash out some discussions over who would do the procedure and which doctor. Second, I think that occasionally over the summer, doctors take vacations just like everyone else, and I think it also had an impact. They needed to choose who would perform the task and when the doctor would be accessible. I think the choice has been taken; he will eventually undergo the operation and recover over several months. I don’t think it will last one or two months; I think it will take longer.
The 33-year-old allegedly played with a sports hernia for a significant portion of the 2024 Stanley Cup Playoffs after experiencing physical issues late in the previous season that were serious enough to cause him to miss time in the postseason. During the Oilers’ journey to the Stanley Cup Final, Kane had four goals and eight points in 20 games. In 77 games, he scored 24 goals and 20 assists for 44 points, which was the most he had ever played in a single season in his NHL career.
Given that Kane will likely be sidelined for an extended amount of time due to injury, the Oilers will have some leeway in negotiating St. Louis’ offer papers for Dylan Holloway and Philip Broberg. It would free approximately $5.125 million in capital space, which is a substantial sum.
The native of Vancouver has totaled 617 points in 930 games during his career, including 326 goals and 291 assists. He has also scored 43 points in 76 postseason games. In 161 regular-season games across his three seasons with the Oil, he has 62 goals, 49 assists, and 30 points in 47 postseason matches.
