Breaking News:::: One Last-Minute Super Trade That The Packers Need To Make Before The NFL Season Begins in 2024

The Green Bay Packers lost 27-2 against the Denver Broncos in their second exhibition game after playing well against the Cleveland Browns in their preseason opener. The host team committed a number of mistakes that evening, including three turnovers on downs, a lost fumble, an interception, and a failed field goal, which prevented the Green Bay offense from scoring any points.

Although the Packers’ starting offense did not play in this game, the team’s second and third string players still had to take responsibility for their dismal showing. Sean Clifford and Michael Pratt, the quarterbacks for Green Bay, were especially lackluster against Denver, accumulating only 80 yards on 26 attempts.

Since Jordan Love is the only quarterback on the Packers’ roster outside Clifford and Pratt, is it possible that the team may make a move to acquire a more seasoned backup quarterback to sit behind Love? This being said, there is one last-minute deal that the Packers need to execute before the 2024 NFL season kicks out in Week 1.

Receive a seventh-round selection in return for quarterback Taylor Heinicke of the Atlanta Falcons.
A fascinating competition between two young, talented gunslingers was expected to ensue for the backup quarterback position behind Jordan Love. Rather, the lackluster preseason play of rookie seventh-round selection Michael Pratt and second-year quarterback Sean Clifford has angered Packers supporters.

Clifford, the starting backup, has a passing rating of 55.8 and has failed to score a touchdown in 29 preseason attempts. He had a pick in the Denver defeat and finished 6-10 for 43 yards. Pratt has performed somewhat better, with a 74.2 preseason passer rating. However, in the two games, he has only completed 15 passes for 98 yards. In addition, the youngster has neither thrown a pick or scored a touchdown (though he did lose a fumble against the Broncos).

Green Bay Packers quarterback Sean Clifford (8) throws downfield during the second quarter of their preseason game against the New England Patriots Saturday, August 19, 2023 at Lambeau Field in Green Bay, Wis.

Green Bay had concerns last year about the backup quarterback position. Thankfully, Jordan Love played every game in his debut season as a starter. Can the Packers hope for such good fortune this next season? The fact that neither Clifford nor Pratt has given the team any reason for optimism throughout the preseason ought to convince the team to spend money on a seasoned backup quarterback.

One player Taylor Heinicke of the Atlanta Falcons is someone Green Bay may want to sign. Having served for three teams for six years, the veteran has a 13-15-1 record with 29 starts. Despite having a career passer rating of 84.2 and the ability to create plays with his feet, Heinicke has occasionally been a turnover-prone player. The 31-year-old’s 2022 campaign with the Washington Commanders was his finest, going 5-3-1 with 12 touchdowns, six interceptions, and an 89.6 passer rating.
The Falcons backup performed significantly better in the team’s second preseason game after having a rough start to the season. Before going to the bench in the first half, Heinicke led Atlanta to four field goal tries on five drives, completing 8/16 passes for 114 yards.
