Expectations are high for Klay Thompson’s first game against the Golden State Warriors as a former all-star
What is the expected point total for Klay Thompson upon his return to the Bay Area?
On November 12th at the Chase Center, Klay Thompson and the Dallas Mavericks will take on the Golden State Warriors in one of the most eagerly awaited games of the 2024–25 NBA season. This offseason, Thompson signed with the Mavs, ending his 13-year tenure with the Warriors, which included five All-Star appearances, four titles, and everyone’s calendar highlighted game in November.
This game took place on the opening day of the 2024 Emirates NBA Cup, contrary to the hopes of certain players that it would take place on Christmas Day. One former All-Star believes Klay will play spectacularly because of the increased stakes.
During a recent appearance on “The Gilbert Area Show,” Kenyon Martin, a 2004 All-Star with the New Jersey Nets, discussed his expectations for the first meeting in the Bay. “Ass to foot. Klay will receive thirty-five shots. They’re going to see to it that he receives every shot. Take thirty-five pictures. [Jason, the Mavericks coach] Kidd will make sure the youngster takes all the shots since he has a -hole in him.”
Thompson would score about 43 points if he made 35 of his shots in that game, according to last year’s efficiency stats. To demonstrate that he still has what it takes to be a top player on a team that competes for championships, he probably hopes to score even more.
Thompson shot 38.7% from three-point range last season and averaged 17.9 points per game. The Mavericks are hoping that adding one of the best shooters in the league to the lineup with Kyrie Irving and Luka Doncic would increase the offensive threat. Even Mavs general manager Nico Harrison has stated publicly that he thinks they would have defeated the Boston Celtics in the NBA Finals the previous year if they had Klay Thompson.
