Prior to Thursday’s game, the Detroit Tigers placed right-handed reliever Alex Faedo on the paternity list.
Sean Guenther, a left-hander, was brought up from Triple-A Toledo to replace him.
A player may be placed on the paternity list for a maximum of three days.
Faedo has pitched 57 1/3 innings in 2024 and is 5-3 with a 3.61 ERA. He has walked 28 and struck out 55.
The Tigers selected the 28-year-old out of the University of Florida in the first round (18th overall).Guenther is playing for the Tigers for the second time in 2024. His last assignment was for a mere three days. On August 1, his first big-league appearance since pitching for the Miami Marlins in 2021, he gave up one run in 1 1/3 innings.
The 28-year-old Guenther first joined the Tigers in 2022 as a waiver claimant, still recovering from Tommy John elbow surgery.
In the previous two years, he has pitched 102 innings in the Tigers’ minor league system, giving up 114 strikeouts and 27 walks.
