This week, the Los Angeles Lakers are once again in the headlines, although none of the stories concern players who are currently with the team.
Former Lakers forward Dylan Windler is joining the Perth Wildcats of the Australian NBL, according to Michael Scotto of HoopsHype. The former first-round selection of the Cleveland Cavaliers played eight games with Los Angeles last season after agreeing to a two-way contract in January.Although Windler only played 3.5 minutes per game while with the Lakers, it was nonetheless a positive experience for the former first-round choice. Last season, Windler participated in a few games with South Bay, LA’s NBA G League club.
Windler played 27.7 minutes a night on average for South Bay, averaging 11 points and six rebounds. The 27-year-old forward was dismissed by LA in early March, although he nearly played out the regular season with the team.
Windler didn’t have to wait long for his next chance, either, as the Atlanta Hawks quickly signed him to a two-way deal. Windler played for West Chester, the New York Knicks’ G-League club, before he signed a contract with the Lakers in January.
The former star from Belmont was selected by the Cavaliers with the 26th overall choice in the 2019 NBA Draft, but he was never able to settle into the league. In the NBA, Windler participated in 101 games, 84 of which were with the Cavaliers.Throughout his NBA career, Windler scored 3.2 points a game on 42.5 percent from the field and 34.7 percent from outside the arc on average.
Nevertheless, in the NBL, one of the top basketball leagues in the world, the former Lakers forward will attempt to spark his basketball career once more. Windler may play in the NBA again if he has a successful season with Perth.
