Jimmy Butler’s Miami Heat have come within a hair’s breadth of a championship twice. Twice under “Playoff Jimmy’s” leadership, they have advanced to the NBA Finals; however, they have failed to overcome the last obstacle and win the championship. It is obvious that the Heat need to add players if they are to make another run at a championship after losing to the Boston Celtics in the first round of the playoffs last season. The issue lies in the fact that their position for executing transactions is not very favorable. Thus, the Heat may have to think outside the box. Interestingly, despite the fact that there doesn’t appear to be much trade interest in Zach LaVine, the Chicago Bulls are said to be quite willing to part ways with the player. His enormous deal is mostly to blame for it. Just a few summers ago, LaVine consented to a five-year, $215 million contract deal with the Bulls.

Every time a possible trade for LaVine has been floated, the story has revolved around the amount of that contract. Even while the 29-year-old leaves a lot to be desired on the other end of the court, he is a two-time All-Star and a fantastic scorer on his day. Could LaVine or someone like help the Heat win a championship? Frederick Okocha said on Last Word on Sports: “LaVine should be a trade target for a team like the Miami Heat, who have been on the verge of another championship.” By being able to make his own shots, he would relieve Jimmy Butler and Bam Adebayo of part of the offensive load.” Of course, bringing in LaVine would involve a significant risk. In addition to his enormous deal, he has also experienced injury issues.
On the other hand, if LaVine can find his best form in Miami, it’s a bet that may pay off handsomely and put the Heat back in the running.
