Padres to sign MVP of the last All-Star Game
Behind the plate, the San Diego Padres are becoming a little more formidable.
Rafael Petit, a baseball journalist, said on Monday that catcher Elias Diaz is being signed by the San Diego Padres. The right-handed hitter Diaz has been offered a minor league contract, according to Daniel Alvarez-Montes of EI Extrabase.
With the Colorado Rockies, Diaz, 33, was an All-Star in the previous year. After hitting the game-winning home run for the National League in the eighth inning, he was awarded the All-Star Game MVP, batting.267 with a.725 OPS. Diaz’s hitting average has increased to.270 this season, but his power figures have somewhat decreased.
Earlier this month, the 48-83 Rockies made the decision to dismiss Diaz in favor of elevating 22-year-old catcher prospect Drew Romo. But Diaz still has some pop in his bat and might someday be a better option for San Diego than.Kyle Higashioka and Luis Campusano, two 230-hitters, are the catcher positions. With a bustling trade deadline filled with acquisitions, the Padres, who are presently 75-58 and in second place in the NL wild card standings, are still adding pieces.
After Manny Machado committed a mistake in the fourth inning, Francisco Lindor launched a two-out grand slam. Later in the seventh inning, he added a leadoff home run, helping the New York Mets defeat the San Diego Padres 7-1.
The Mets, who are up two games to none in their four-game series against the Padres, who are also in the NL postseason hunt, have won two of the first three games thanks to home runs from Lindor and Harrison Bader.
