After turning down a contract offer, the Toronto Maple Leafs have now confirmed the departure of another highly experienced player.
By appointing former Toronto Maple Leafs goalkeeper Justin Pogge as the new goaltending coach for their AHL club, the Abbotsford Canucks, the Vancouver Canucks added a key member to their coaching staff.

The Canucks are making a great effort to try to improve their AHL club in front of the 2024–25 season, following a semifinal loss to the Ontario Reign in the previous campaign. In all honesty, Pogge’s NHL career was short lived.

In 2009, at the age of 22, he played just seven games for the Maple Leafs, starting six of them. On the other hand, Pogge has a wealth of AHL and international league experience. General manager Ryan Johnson of the Abbotsford Canucks announced the appointment and expressed his excitement in a message on August 26.

“I am very excited to have Justin Pogge join our team as Goaltending Coach,” stated Johnson. “He brings a plethora of experience as a player at the NHL, AHL, international and European professional levels and I’m looking forward to seeing him help develop our goaltenders in Abbotsford.”

Pogge participated in 254 AHL regular-season games, spending time with the Toronto Marlies among them. In addition, Pogge gained international experience by guiding the Canadian national junior team to victory in the 2006 World Junior Championship.

Pogge was originally selected by the Maple Leafs with the No. 90 selection in the 2004 NHL draft, held by the goalkeeper.
