The San Diego Padres defeated the Tampa Bay Rays 13-5 thanks in large part to a three-run home run and two singles from Manny Machado.

Following a recent deal, the San Diego Padres have added two young talent to the squad:

San Diego Padres defeated the Tampa Bay Rays 13-5 on Friday night thanks to two singles and a three-run home slam by Manny Machado in the second inning.

The Padres manager, Mike Shildt, declared, “He’s definitely locked in.” “Manny has such a balanced swing, which is one of the reasons he’s been a good player in this league for a long time and has driven in over a thousand runs. It is basic sound and simple. It makes it possible for him to manage everything.

With 161, Machado is currently just two home runs shy of the lead held by Nate Colbert, tied with Adrian Gonzalez for second place on the Padres lifetime home run list. Machado has gone 13 for 34 with three home runs and nine RBIs in his previous eight games.

That’s enormous, Machado said. He’s a San Diego legend, without a doubt, and it’s fantastic that he made the list so quickly. It’s definitely an honor to be on the same level.

The Padres moved to 77-60, which puts them second in the National League wild-card standings.

In 2 1/3 innings against Rays starter Taj Bradley (6-9) San Diego scored eight runs. In the fourth inning, reliever Erasmo Ramirez allowed David Peralta to blast a two-run home run. In the ninth inning, Xander Bogaerts added a single drive to left field.

Jurickson Profar scored two runs and made five trips to base (four walks and one single). Tristan Solano scored three runs.

Simply pass the baton is how we’ve operated all year, according to Machado. “It’s a plus to get on base early and work good counts and at-bats because that leads to big innings.”

A two-run home shot by Yandy Diaz highlighted the Rays’ four-run second inning. The Rays took a lead thanks to a two-run single by Taylor Walls. With left knee patella tendinitis, Diaz departed the game in the fourth inning. Jonathan Aranda took his place.
