Derrick McLendon, a linebacker, has been added to the Miami Dolphins practice squad.

On May 10, 2024, McLendon joined the NFL as an undrafted college free agency with Carolina. He was a member of the club for the offseason and training camp. At Colorado, where he played in 12 games and concluded his college career, he recorded 14 tackles (10 solo), 1.5 sacks, one forced fumble, and four fumble recoveries in 2023. After moving to Colorado, he played in 38 games over four seasons (2019–22) for Florida State, where he finished with 61 tackles (19 solo), 7.0 sacks, one forced fumble, and one fumble recovery.

The Green Bay Packers have a hole in their roster on Tuesday as tight end Messiah Swinson was signed by the Carolina Panthers off of the practice squad. Following practice, the organization declared that they had signed Chris Brooks, a running back most recently of the Miami Dolphins, to fill that position.

Before going to BYU in 2022, Brooks played four seasons at Cal. Last season, Brooks played in nine games with the Dolphins as an undrafted rookie, resulting in 19 carries for 106 yards. Miami released Brooks last week with an injury designation, placing him on injured reserve until the parties could agree on a settlement for the concussion that Brooks was diagnosed with. The Packers’ medical team appears to have given Brooks the all-clear to play.

Remarkably, Brooks enters a packed running back room. The Packers have been practicing with running backs La’Mical Perine and Ellis Merriweather for a while now, and this past week they added fullback Andrew Beck to the roster as well. Regarding whether one of these practice squad backs will have to play in Brazil on Friday against the Philadelphia Eagles, there is a genuine worry because MarShawn Lloyd, a rookie third-round pick, missed practice on Tuesday due to hamstring injury. As AJ Dillon was placed on season-ending injured reserve due to a neck injury, Lloyd was anticipated to serve as Josh Jacobs’ primary backup through 2024.
