The Los Angeles Lakers are suffering with injuries even in the offseason.
The Lakers revealed on Monday that big man Christian Wood had surgery on his left knee this week. In around eight weeks, Wood will get a new evaluation from medical professionals, the team said.
In 2020–21, Wood scored 21.0 points per game for the Houston Rockets. He became a free agency last summer and signed with the Lakers. Even though he played effectively off the bench in terms of production per minute (6.9 points and 5.1 rebounds in 17.4 minutes per game overall), Wood’s left knee problem kept him out of the Lakers’ playoff run and the final two months of the regular season
Wood has had a treatment to permanently address the knee condition, which seems to have persisted over time. However, given the eight-week window, Wood will probably miss at least the first few weeks of the upcoming NBA season, which starts on October 22. Wood, who was presumably pleased with the team’s recent coaching change, recently accepted his $3 million player option with the Lakers for 2024–25. However, he will have to begin the upcoming season wearing street clothes.
