Since the WNBA resumed play following the month-long Olympic break, Caitlin Clark and the Indiana Fever have been among the finest teams in the league. Since then, they have emerged victorious from eight of their 10 games and even achieved their first winning record in more than five years. The outstanding play of the Fever’s star rookie has been a major factor in their triumph. Clark has been a dependable playmaker all season long, but in the last five games, she has scored more than 20 points per game after finding her shooting rhythm. In August, she was even named Player of the Month. But Clark would be the first to inform you that there are several players on the Fever team. The former Iowa Hawkeyes standout said that guard Lexie Hull is Indiana’s X-factor for their possible postseason run following their victory against the Atlanta Dream on Sunday. “I’m super proud of [Hull], but I think she does a lot of things for us that don’t show up in the box score,” Clark said. She is strewn on the floor. I mean, she spends the entire night watching their top player, so I’m just incredibly proud of her. Our X-factor is her. “Lexie is amazing.”
Hull, like Clark, has heated up just when Indiana needs it to. She just entered the starting lineup and has performed admirably. Hull made four out of her five three-point tries against the Dream. A few weeks ago, she also scored a career-high 22 points against the Seattle Storm.
The former Stanford Cardinal has started the last six games for the Fever, who have gone 5-1 in that stretch. Hull has averaged 5.6 points, 2.4 rebounds, and one assist this season, but her hustling plays have really made an impact and elevated her to the status of an X-factor.
Hull was chosen in the 2022 WNBA draft as the sixth overall choice. Hull started most of her games last season as a starter, but she was moved to the bench to start 2024. However, she has subsequently earned a place at the top and is the ideal Clark’s sidekick.
