Hilson, a top edge rusher in the class of 2025, reopened his recruiting to schools including Texas, UCF, Florida, Georgia, and Alabama after announcing his decommitment from Florida State on Sunday afternoon.
Now that Florida State is off to a dismal 0-2 start, which includes two league defeats, On3’s Recruiting Prediction Machine projects that Hilson will commit to Texas, where he will pay an official visit on June 7, 2024, with an 85.3% likelihood. According to On3, no other school has a possibility greater than 5%. After famous head coach Nick Saban retired in mid-January 2024, Hilson formally committed to the Seminoles on the same day that he had verbally committed to the Crimson Tide.
According to 247sports’ composite rating, he is rated as the No. 34 overall prospect, the No. 2 edge rusher, and the No. 6 player in Florida. Although there are differences in his class rankings, Rivals.com ranks him as the top edge rusher in the class of 2025, making him a unanimous blue-chip recruit. In late May, 247sports Director of Scouting Andrew Ivins had the following thoughts on the edge rusher:
Hilson, who is presently ranked fifth nationally by On3, could be a big addition to Texas’ 2025 class. With junior edge rusher Trey Moore possibly forgoing his final year of eligibility to enter the 2024 NFL Draft and senior edge rusher Barryn Sorrell set to depart soon, Hilson could play a major role as a rotational edge rusher.
