Sunderland are considering a move to boost their striking options with a free agent
Sunderland are in advanced negotiations over a deal to acquire Irish striker Aaron Connolly.
The 24-year-old has been a free agent since leaving Hull City at the conclusion of his contract last summer, having scored 10 goals over 36 appearances in all competitions for the club. The former Brighton and Hove Albion striker has also had loan stints at Luton Town, Venezia & Middlesbrough.
The Black Cats have attempted to bolster their striking options after coming close to sealing a deal for a more experienced forward in the waning seconds of deadline day. The club bought Ahmed Abdullahi from Gent but the teenager is very much considered as a long-term acquisition and will not be fit until around the holiday time as he recovers from surgery on his groin.
Connolly will offer seasoned cover and competition to Regis Le Bris’ Sunderland options across the front line if a deal is finalized, which is now seen to be increasingly likely.
