The Washington Commanders defeat the Carolina Panthers 40–7, but Jayden Daniels suffers a rib injury.
When Marcus Mariota replaced the injured rookie quarterback, his first worry was Jayden Daniels’ health. He continued to play football as usual after that.

The Washington Commanders trounced the Carolina Panthers 40-7 on Sunday after Daniels exited with a rib injury. Mariota’s two touchdown passes and Dante Fowler’s 67-yard interception return for a touchdown were the main causes of the victory.

Mariota, who completed 18 of 23 passes for 205 yards with touchdown passes to tight ends Zach Ertz and Ben Sinnott, said, “It takes a little bit to kind of get your feet going and all that, but, yeah, you’re just thinking about the player first and then you just go out there and try to execute.”

After the No. 2 selection and offensive rookie of the year favorite exited with a rib injury, worries about Daniels’ health clouded the victory. On social media, his mother said that “he’s fine.” However, coach Dan Quinn stated that he had no updates and that Daniels will undergo more testing on Monday.

After Daniels ran 46 yards and completed a few passes on their first drive, the Commanders (5-2) played effectively without him for the most of the game.

Fowler’s interception return for a touchdown, Dalton’s first of two interceptions, put them ahead of the game. Emmanuel Forbes made the second, returning after

“It’s time to go score a touchdown,” Fowler thought after making his first NFL interception and seeing a clean route.

“Dude, I felt like I was dreaming,” Fowler remarked. With only 180 yards given up, seven of 10 third-down tries stopped, and two sacks of Dalton, the defense was excellent.

Against the Panthers (1-6), who have given up the most points of any team in Super Bowl history through the first six games of a season, Washington moved consistently and accumulated 421 yards under Mariota’s leadership.

Carolina coach Dave Canales stated that Dalton will start next week over 2023 No. 1 selection Bryce Young, saying, “I think they scored on all but one drive between giving the ball away and just not being able to get off the field.”

In addition, Brian Robinson Jr. scored a touchdown after recovering from a knee injury that prevented him from playing in last week’s game against Baltimore, which was the team’s first defeat since the start of the season. The team’s halftime advantage of 27 points was the biggest since they defeated Dallas 28-0 on December 18, 2005.

Five games into Dalton taking over as the starting quarterback, Carolina’s dismal season continued. Young entered the game with 4:55 remaining and completed two passes for zero yardage, while Dalton completed 11 of 16 attempts for 93 yards.

“We quickly lost control of it,” Dalton remarked. “We must examine ourselves in the mirror and ask ourselves, ‘Why do these games continue in this manner?'” That, in my opinion, is the most important thing.

After averaging more over 100 yards over the previous four weeks, Chuba Hubbard was restricted to 52 yards on 17 attempts. Many of the supporters who had been performing the wave had already departed to escape traffic when he scored a touchdown early in the fourth quarter, well after the game was finished.

Terry McLaurin, the top receiver for Washington with six receptions for 98 yards, stated, “We won easily in the end, and I think the defense did an incredible job.”

last week as a healthy scratch.
