A blockbuster trade proposal has the Canadiens acquiring a star defenseman.
In a blockbuster transaction, the Montreal Canadiens are able to acquire a star in exchange for a defenseman.
Users may make their own trades using the PuckGM tool on the website PuckPedia. One user suggested a trade in which Noah Dobson would be acquired by the Canadiens from the New York Islanders.
The Islanders would receive three young NHL players and a first-round pick in the proposed deal, which would be a blockbuster as Montreal would solidify its blue line.
Dobson is now in the latter year of a $12 million, three-year contract. The former first-round pick can help strengthen the Canadiens blue line and is a legitimate top-pairing defenseman in the NHL. Dobson has skated in 324 games throughout his NHL career, scoring 196 points with 40 goals and 156 assists.
Montreal would trade Barron, a former first-round selection, in exchange. The 22-year-old defender Barron is now in the first year of a two-year, $2.3 million contract. He was chosen 25th overall in the 2020 NHL draft.
Evans, 28, has two assists in seven games this season and might take Pageau’s job. He is now in the last year of a three-year contract worth $5.1 million. Roy, a 21-year-old who skated in 23 games last season and recorded 4 goals and 5 assists for 9 points, may end up in the Islanders’ bottom six.
Top-4 Defenseman Targeted by the Canadiens
Montreal wants to add a top-four defenseman to strengthen its blue line.
On “Early Trading,” TSN’s NHL insider Pierre LeBrun said that Canadiens general manager Kent Hughes is looking into trades.
“After speaking with teams throughout the league, I’ve been informed that general manager Kent Hughes has begun making calls, conducting due diligence, and at least gaining an idea of what might be out there,” LeBrun stated. “I believe the Canadiens would be amenable to a deal that would help this club win some games and sort of mix up the composition here.
However, we know from a cap system that there are virtually no transactions during this time of year. Although I don’t think Montreal will see any changes anytime soon, I do think it’s important that the Habs aren’t simply sitting there and resigned to the fact that they’re off to a sluggish start—that’s just life. Kent Hughes may have made more calls as a result of it than he otherwise might have at this early stage of the season. LeBrun continued, “We’ll see where it goes.”
Frank Seravalli of DailyFaceoff.com said that Hughes is contacting clubs for a top-four defenseman following LeBrun’s story.
on contrast, Pageau is currently on the fifth year of a $30 million, six-year contract. The seasoned forward may serve as the third-line center for the Canadiens and assist the bottom of the lineup score some goals.
