“However, I was high on crack;” Quarterback for the Dallas Cowboys Reacts to the Term “Biggest Bust”
It has been lucky for the Dallas Cowboys to have two quarterbacks in a row. Dak Prescott is the highest-paid player in NFL history and a consistent MVP candidate. Tony Romo was a four-time Pro Bowler.
from at one point, the quarterback situation was anything from guaranteed. Before Romo took over in 2006, the Cowboys had ten different starting quarterbacks after Troy Aikman retired after the 1999 season.
Ryan Leaf, one of these quarterbacks, is regarded by many as one of the worst NFL Draft flops in league history.
As NFL and Cowboys fans may remember, the San Diego Chargers selected Leaf with the second overall choice in the 1998 NFL Draft, after the Indianapolis Colts’ selection of Peyton Manning.
He didn’t stay with the Chargers for very long. Leaf only completed 45.3% of his throws for 1,289 yards, tossed two touchdowns, and had a staggering 15 interceptions in his debut season of action, which included nine starts.
Leaf played in 11 games (nine starts) in 2000 after missing the 1999 season due to a shoulder injury. For 1,883 yards, 11 touchdowns, and 18 interceptions, he completed 50.3% of his throws.
He had a 4-14 record at the end of his tenure in San Diego.
Leaf played in four games (three starts) during the 2001 season while he was with Dallas. For 494 yards, one touchdown, and three interceptions, he completed 51.1% of his attempts.
