Did the Texas Rangers hire the new manager? The front office advisor is a former captain of the Miami Marlins.

The Texas Rangers have now decided to appoint a new manager following their break with Donnie Ecker today.

Skip Schumaker, the former manager’s bench coach, has joined the Texas Rangers as a senior advisor to Chris Young.

Skip Schumaker, a former manager and Major League player, has been named a senior consultant by Chris Young, president of baseball operations for the Texas Rangers.

Schumaker quit the Miami Marlins before the season’s last two games to deal with a family medical issue after guiding the team for the previous three seasons. According to Evan Grant of the Dallas Morning News, who broke the story first, the team is also discussing a contract with Luis Urueta to serve as their bench coach.

Urueta, who turns 44 in January, has been benched by the Marlins for the past two seasons under Schumaker. From 2018 until 2022, he was the coach of the Arizona Diamondbacks. Urueta, a native of Columbia, was promoted as Arizona’s bench coach in 2020.

Schumaker, who turns 44 in February, won the National League Manager of the Year award after leading the Marlins to an 84-78 record and a postseason berth in his inaugural campaign.

Schumaker appears to be a serious candidate to succeed manager Bruce Bochy if he decides to retire following the 2025 season, which is the third and final year of his current deal. According to Bochy, 69, he has no desire to continue coaching far into his seventies. Will Venable, a former associate manager, was the likely successor until last week, when he was named the next manager of the Chicago White Sox.

What the new coaching team will be in charge of is still unknown. Justin Viele, the newly hired hitting coach, may work with Donnie Ecker, the current offensive coordinator and bench coach, if Ecker is elevated to associate manager.Urueta is the team’s new bench coach.
Even if the team’s complacency may disappoint some supporters, they are now the No. 2 seed in the AFC with nine weeks left and lead the AFC East by four games. The Bills’ offense has been more potent in recent weeks with the acquisition of Cooper, scoring 30 points or more in three consecutive games. In each of those games, Allen has also thrown 200 yards and at least two touchdowns.
