The Seattle Kraken has welcomed Daniel Sprong back. Late Friday afternoon, the Vancouver Canucks made the deal public by moving Sprong. We assume that the Canucks administration enjoys embarrassing the Eastern media, thus it’s a Friday afternoon once more.

Sprung, Daniel Sprong
For future considerations, the Canucks made the unexpected decision to transfer their newly acquired winger back to a previous team. In particular, the Seattle Kraken, one of six NHL clubs he has played for over his extensive career.

He joined Vancouver on July 20th, a somewhat late signing in the free-agent season. His prior contract with Detroit was for half as much annually as his $975K agreement. He struggled to catch up with a new team after having a respectable season with the Red Wings (18 goals, 43 points).

The Canucks are getting cap space, at the very least. There are plenty of rumours that Vancouver wants to shore up their defence, though the emergence of Erik Brännström eases some pressure.

The Canucks have had problems discovering how to best use their third pair, but more than that they need another puck mover. Any plans to separate the top pair of Quinn Hughes and Filip Hronek were shot down immediately by the Canucks captain. And he seems to be right.
