Sean McDermott, the head coach of the Buffalo Bills, has previously trusted his defense to make clutch stops in the closing minutes of games.
He trusted the offense against the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday, and Josh Allen, the quarterback, made sure the choice was successful.
Instead of attempting a field goal that would have increased the lead to five points with little over two minutes left in the fourth quarter, McDermott decided to go for it on 4th-and-2 deep in Chiefs territory. The Bills won 30–21 when Allen ripped through the Kansas City defense with a 26-yard touchdown run.

After the season’s first loss, Patrick Mahomes speaks up
With the victory, the Bills improved to 9-2 and dealt the Chiefs their first defeat of the year. Buffalo’s victory gave them a chance to secure the No. 1 seed this season, even if the Chiefs are still a half-game ahead of the Bills at 9-1.
“There is no shame in losing to such a good team,” Mahomes stated after the game.
“That football squad is excellent. “There’s nothing to worry about if you lose to them,” Mahomes stated. “We believe we can perform better. In order to become a better football squad in the end, we will return to work and attempt to utilize this as motivation.
Adding that a Super Bowl three-peat is the only objective that counts, Mahomes said he wasn’t concerned about them missing their shot at a perfect season.
