The owner of the Houston Astros reveals Alex Bregman’s “backup” after the
Alex Bregman is a free agent after playing with the Houston Astros throughout his whole nine-year career. The management is thinking about alternative possibilities in the event that its star third baseman signs with another team because it’s still unclear if Bregman will return to H-Town.
Owner Jim Crane stated that the Astros are considering a number of players, since Bregman’s decision is not anticipated to be made anytime soon. Through MLB.com:
Crane remarked, “We know Scott (Boras).” If he wants to depart, he will do his hardest to secure the greatest deal for [Bregman].” … We’d have to decide something at some time. Right now, we’re considering a backup [solution]. Now that you’re looking at every possibility, that’s what’s going on.
Houston is giving its corner infield positions top priority. Bregman is obviously a wild card right now to run it back with the Astros, but Jose Abreu is gone. Willy Adames, who is exclusively a middle infielder, and Jorge Polanco are reportedly targets for the ball club. On the open market this winter, Adames is also a highly sought-after free agent.
