The Rangers continue to gain a great deal from Jonathan Quick’s recovery.
Igor Shesterkin, the New York Rangers’ outstanding goaltender, frequently saves the team. Both this season and last, though, they have been able to rely on their backup goalie. That goalkeeper is Jonathan Quick, who opened a four-game road trip with a 2-0 victory over the Seattle Kraken on Sunday, stopping all 24 shots he faced.
Quick’s record now stands at 4-0-0 in four starts this season after recording his second straight shutout. The 38-year-old has been outstanding in addition to winning those four games. Quick Sports has a 0.91 goals-against average and a.970 save percentage in five
Quick has only given up one goal or less four times and has never let up more than two goals in any one game. Quick had more shutouts this season than just Winnipeg Jets Connor Hellebuyck, the current Vezina Trophy winner.
For Quick, the advanced stats are very impressive. He stopped 0.372 goals more than anticipated per 60 minutes during the previous season. Among goalies with at least 10 games played, that placed 11th, surpassing even Shesterkin, Linus Ullmark, Ilya Sorokin, and Sergei Bobrovsky. Quick leads this season with an incredible 1.923 goals saved beyond expectations per 60, although in a tiny sample size.
Defenseman Zac Jones told reporters after the game, “It’s pretty incredible, I don’t know how many guys his age can move like that.” “He consistently demonstrates that he is a vital member of our team.”

Jonathan Quick’s surprising rise to prominence with the Rangers
After the wildest season of his career, Quick signed with the Rangers in the summer of 2023. As he had done for the previous 15 years, he started that season with the Los Angeles Kings. The Kings, who wanted to make a long playoff run and saw a waning asset in the goalkeeper who had previously guided them to Stanley Cup victories, realized that Quick wasn’t the solution for them that season.
In 2022–2023, Quick had the worst season of his career. With the Kings, he allowed the fifth-most goals above expectations in the NHL and had an.876 save percentage. Then, in an attempt to strengthen their goaltending, the Kings made the unimaginable trade of the franchise legend. The Vegas Golden Knights acquired Quick after he was first dealt to the Columbus Blue Jackets.
Quick was demoted to third-string duty in the playoffs after making ten appearances for the Golden Knights during the regular season. Vegas used Adin Hill in goal rather than Quick, even after starter goalie Logan Thompson was injured. Quick received his third Stanley Cup ring at the end of the playoffs, but this one was undoubtedly less significant than the first two.piecegames (including one in relief) in 2012 and 2014.
