The Kansas City star receives a seven-word message from Brittany Mahomes.
The Kansas City Chiefs are trying to recover from their first NFL loss as they get ready for their Week 12 game against the Carolina Panthers. Kansas City is the top club in the AFC with a 9-1 record so far this season. Despite having a 9-0 record at the beginning of the season, they lost to the Buffalo Bills 30–21 in Week 11. However, everyone’s focus was on the Kansas City Current of the NWSL until it shifted to Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs. Temwa Chawinga, a Malawian star, received the NWSL MVP award at an event hosted by the Current on Saturday.
Brittany Mahomes, the wife of Patrick Mahomes, congratulated Chawinga on social media when the news was made public. Brittany Mahomes said, “Congrats to the incredible @temwa556 (Temwa Chawinga) on MVP!!!!” on social media
Chawinga set a new NWSL single-season record with 20 goals during the 2024 season with the Current. Throughout the season, she scored in eight straight games and 13 of the Current’s last 14 games. According to Sean Leahy of Yahoo Sports, Chawinga’s MVP victory also made him the first athlete of African descent to get the honor.
In 2020, Brittany Mahomes joined Annie and Chris Long, colleagues at Palmer Square Capital Management, to co-found the Current. In 2023, Patrick Mahomes made a follow-up investment, contributing to the organization and joining the NWSL executive group as a co-owner.
