MLB rumors: The White Sox are being pitched by the Phillies in the Garrett Crochet deal
The Phillies have confirmed that they will sign another huge deal for $70 million. The Chicago White Sox’s top player will support the squad’s depth.
Despite being among the best in the league for the last three seasons, the Philadelphia Phillies have yet to make a World Series breakthrough. The Phillies have actually regressed since winning the World Series in 2022, losing in the 2023 and 2024 NLCS and NLDS, respectively. As a result, they are realizing that they need to make a change and are considering Chicago White Sox star Garrett Crochet.
In 2024, Crochet was among the finest pitchers in all of Major League Baseball, and the White Sox are naturally negotiating a hard-won deal for the 25-year-old southpaw. However, according to Bob Nightengale of USA Today, the Phillies are making every effort to assemble a valuable trade package that might persuade the White Sox to part with Crochet. The package is built around shortstop Justin Crawford, one of their greatest prospects.
However, even if MLB.com evaluators put Crawford among the league’s top 100 prospects, he is unable to close a deal. According to Nightengale, third baseman Alec Bohm, who plays at the hot corner every day, is one of the key assets the Phillies are attempting to send the White Sox in addition to Crawford. (Nick Castellanos is also allegedly on the trade block, but his possible involvement in a crochet trade was not mentioned.)
But according to Nightengale, the White Sox are “concerned” about Bohm’s problems to close the previous season, which is why they are hesitant to make a trade offer to the Phillies that would focus on the 28-year-old third baseman.
