NCAA Early Signing Day 2024: Hokies sign 19 and make a significant flip
When the NCAA implemented an early signing period for high school athletes in 2017, college football underwent a permanent transformation. For many years, the first Wednesday in February was the day of National Signing Day. With the inclusion of early signing day, a lot of the drama that had been there throughout the years was eliminated.
With some top targets leaving at the last minute, the Virginia Tech Hokies have undoubtedly experienced their share of sadness over the years. Therefore, Virginia Tech was pleased to move the early signing day two months earlier. For two months, the Hokies were spared from having to repel other colleges.
By early signing day, the majority of teams have completed their recruiting class. Brent Pry, the head coach of VT, has done a fantastic job of keeping the majority of Tech’s class on the boat every year. For Hokie fans, that meant a signing day free of turmoil, which is wonderful news.
That changed on Wednesday when four-star cornerback Jahmari DeLoatch switched his pledge from Cincinnati to Virginia Tech, giving Pry and the Hokies a significant recruiting victory. Tech coaches were pleased in the “war room” since he was the final signee available.
When he committed to the Bearcats early in the season, DeLoatch had the Hokies as a finalist. Pry and the Hokies made a strong effort for DeLoatch on Tuesday night, and it paid off. They kept recruiting him until signing day. Before 7:00 a.m. ET, DeLoatch told the Hokies that he was signing with Virginia Tech.
For Pry, this was a huge victory. The 5-foot-10, 160-pound DeLoatch was a unanimous top-10 player in Virginia while attending Oscar Smith High School in Chesapeake. DeLoatch is expected to play early in his career and can play nickel, safety, or corner. He will fit in well at cornerback in the long run.
Every Virginia Tech signee has been featured by us since they made their commitment. Here are some remarks regarding Virginia Tech’s 2025 class before we provide you with a full list of those who signed up.
