Following Quinn Ewers’ question, Texas coach Steve Sarkisian becomes irate with the reporter.
In the first round of the inaugural 12-team College Football Playoff, the No. 5 Texas Longhorns (11-2) will play the No. 12 Clemson Tigers (10-2) on Saturday. Although it would seem that the most of the conversations would center on how advantageous it is for this side of the bracket to make it to the championship game, Texas quarterback Quinn Ewers has been the main topic of debate. Although the third-year starting quarterback has made some outstanding plays this season, such as Txeas’ victory against Michigan in Week 2, he has also experienced setbacks after recovering from an oblique injury and a subsequent ankle ailment. There have been cries for his backup, Arch Manning, since there are so many doubts about his ability to lead Texas to the top of the mountain. Additionally, there is conjecture that Ewers could play one more season in college in 2025.

Head coach Steve Sarkisian is obviously trying to avoid talking about these two subjects because one reporter tried to inquire about Ewers’ future during a Zoom meeting with the media. When the reporter mentioned that Saturday may be Ewers’ final home game, Sarkisian interrupted and said he would not discuss hypotheticals, making it first unclear where the topic was headed. Sarkisian shut down the story when it made an effort to provide more details because he once more thought it was speculative. Sarkisian took sure to clarify that he would discuss Ewers’ current impact even if the inquiry ultimately focused on his influence while he was at Texas.

Everyone in college football wants to hear what Ewers’ plans are beyond this season, even though Sarkisian might not have liked the question’s hypothetical element. Ewers had a chance to compete for the number one pick in the NFL draft going into the season, but he has since lost interest in first-round talks. He still has the option to go in the second round or battle his way back into the first, but there have been murmurs that he would try his luck for a fourth season the following year, forcing Texas to pick between him and Manning. Despite everything Ewers has done for the program, most people believe that this choice would leave him out. It is obvious that they will be concerned about Ewers’ future when the time comes.
