The New York Rangers’ most seasoned defenseman is listed by The Athletic as a potential trade target.
The New York Rangers’ newest player, Will Borgen, has already been added to the long list of Blueshirts who are the subject of rumors. The Moorhead, Minnesota native is already on the list of players who might be traded, according to TSN and The Athletic insiders Pierre LeBrun and Chris Johnston. He is also included in the second edition of The Athletic’s top trade target predictions. Even if we all think the Rangers would sell if they can’t change their present trajectory, the whispers of fresh additions are nonetheless shocking.
According to Johnston, Borgen could be coveted by the Vancouver Canucks, and the former Seattle Kraken defense might soon be returning to the Pacific Northwest. The Rangers may be seeking more than the Canucks could provide in order to move on from the guy they acquired in the Kaapo Kakko deal, even though it’s not a crazy thought given the Canucks’ need to fill the vacuum created by Filip Hronek’s injury.
LeBrun hinted that the Florida Panthers, the same club that defeated the Blueshirts in the Eastern Conference Finals the previous season, may be interested in Borgen. Borgen is almost too well suited to the Panthers’ style. His stature and physicality make him a good fit for a postseason series when the goal is to win by attrition. I don’t know anything sounds more like a Paul Maurice squad than that.
The Rangers will have to make a choice, but other clubs will emerge from the shadows to ask about the defenseman’s availability. You can’t expect the Rangers to sell him for pennies on the dollar since other clubs want him because he was the major return in the Kakko trade. They’ll want an excuse for abandoning their young winger. Add Borgen to the list of people being rumored at the moment, and we’ll see where this goes.
Brady Tkachuk, the captain of the Ottawa Senators, has long been respected by the New York Rangers. The Canadian capital has recently accused the Rangers of “soft tampering” to show Tkachuk that they value his style of play. Brady Tkachuk is one of the young players with a little bite that New York has been searching for to assist the Blueshirts in the postseason. Brady will want to live up to the expectations because of his family’s reputation, and the Rangers might help him do so.
The speculations around their captain will be the subject of complaints from Senators supporters, although Tkachuk, who is already 25 years old, has never participated in a postseason game due to Ottawa’s terrible play. They’re still fighting to qualify for the playoffs, and they’re hot and cold. In the end, the longer their difficulties persist, the longer the whispers about the Senators’ top left winger will persist.
What would be required to acquire the Senators captain in light of those charges? Although he isn’t as good as players like Artemi Panarin or his brother Matthew Tkachuk, he is still a valuable addition to a postseason squad. Given his advanced age, is there any chance that the Rangers could sign him if he becomes available? Every query that has to be addressed. Let’s enjoy ourselves as there is nothing else to talk about during this holiday trade freeze.
When the Blueshirts decide to sign the son of former NHL enforcer Keith Tkachuk, the cost will be high. Brady isn’t talented enough to insist on Gabriel Perreault, Alexis Lafreniere, and K’Andre Miller as deal-making pieces. If the Senators want to solve their farm system problems with selections and other prospects, then Miller and Perreault sans Lafreniere may be a request. The Senators captain’s age makes this a reasonably risk-free move, but it will be costly if the Rangers choose to acquire him.
Not everything about the Sens skipper is good. Tkachuk has terrible defensive skills and frequently believes that landing a huge hit is more important than keeping the puck out of his net. Don’t be deceived by the captaincy he assumes in the Canadian capital; he isn’t the most exceptional leader. The Senators have acquired leaders like Claude Giroux because his leadership has been a complete failure and they realize he isn’t ready to lead that team at this time.
The Rangers would acquire Tkachuk solely for his ability to score points, which they desperately need. Although the Rangers are producing offensively, it isn’t at the typical level you would anticipate. The Blueshirts are now left frantically trying to figure out what happened to the team’s finishing. We might not know until the summer whether Brady is the solution, but the Blueshirts front staff is excited about the prospect of Tkacuk.
