Breaking: Following the Vikings’ decisive victory over the Packers, JJ McCarthy makes a four-word statement
With Sunday’s 27-25 victory over the Green Bay Packers at home at U.S. Bank Stadium, the Minnesota Vikings improved to 14-2 on the season. Since the former USC Trojan has outperformed expectations for the majority of the 2024–2025 season, the Vikings and coach Kevin O’Connell have focused heavily on quarterback Sam Darnold’s play. As the Vikings approach a matchup with the Detroit Lions for the NFC North Division title, JJ McCarthy, the man many anticipated to succeed Darnold, posted a message on Sunday about his thoughts on the team.
McCarthy tweeted, “I love this team,” on X following the Vikings’ victory over their division rivals. Prior to the season, McCarthy had surgery to rehabilitate his right knee after tearing the meniscus. He spoke frankly about the Vikings being a wonderful match for him after he was picked in the first round of the 2024 NFL draft and team executives remain optimistic on his future with the organization as its possible starting quarterback. For now, the attention is on Darnold and the Vikings’ pursuit for the NFC North crown, with all roads heading to Detroit next weekend. “We love you JJ!” exclaimed one fan.
“We love you fam,” remarked another reader. Another fan commented, “It’s going to be better when you’re back, future MVP.” McCarthy’s preseason performance for Minnesota, which included 188 passing yards and two touchdowns, was full of potential. As the Vikings get ready to play the Lions in Motown next week, Darnold currently leads the team with 3,776 yards passing and 32 touchdowns against 11 interceptions.
