The Golden State Warriors defeated the Phoenix Suns 109-105 in the Bay Area on Saturday night thanks to some unexpected contributions from some unsung heroes.
Despite strong performances from Bradley Beal and Kevin Durant, Jonathan Kuminga was the Warriors’ offensive hero of the night, finishing with 34 points on 12-for-20 shooting to lead the team to victory. Although Kuminga’s choice to start this season from the bench has generated a lot of discussion, Anthony Slater of The Athletic reports that head coach Steve Kerr is pleased with the performance of his rotation.
“Steve Kerr stated that he wants to maintain this as the cornerstone of the Warriors rotation: Jonathan Kuminga playing starter minutes (off the bench) and the starting group.” Following the victory against the Suns, Slater posted on X, previously Twitter.
Given that Kuminga is unquestionably among the team’s top five players, Kerr’s choice to remove him off the bench was controversial. He is still playing starter’s minutes, though, and the current starting lineup, which consists of Trayce Jackson-Davis, Dennis Schroder, Andrew Wiggins, Draymond Green, and Stephen Curry, has developed a good rapport
The way the Warriors won many of their games early in the season was exemplified by Kuminga’s explosion on Saturday night.
